Government of Norway
Åsmund Aukrust, Minister of International Development
I am honored to be a SheDecides Champion. Right now, taking a stance is more important than ever. I pledge to fight for everyone's right to bodily autonomy. I want a world where every girl and every woman are empowered to make their own choices.

How we are working so SheDecides
Norway is strongly committed to ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights for everyone, with particular attention to girls, LGBTIQ+ individuals, and other marginalised groups.
Promoting SRHR and gender equality remains a key priority in Norway’s foreign and development policy.

Global support for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)
Norway is a consistent global advocate for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We work actively to accelerate progress while also safeguarding the gains made so far.
Globally, Norway seeks to strengthen and secure broad support for the international SRHR framework. Much of this work happens in global arenas where norms are shaped—such as UN forums and other international platforms.
Norway’s strategies include alliance-building, engaging with strategic partners, and collaborating with governments, multilateral institutions, and civil society organisations.
Country level support for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)
Norway supports efforts to ensure that everyone has access to essential health services and that their sexual and reproductive rights are respected. This is achieved through dialogue with relevant stakeholders, including governments, as well as through support for multilateral and civil society partners. These efforts also help build alliances that are vital for reinforcing and defending the global SRHR framework.
Norwegian support:
- Has contributed to over 150 legal reforms in various countries, including Colombia and Benin.
- Millions have gained access to contraceptives, preventing tens of millions of unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions.
- Norwegian funding has supported the education of midwives and health workers, helping to save tens of thousands of lives.
- In 2023 alone, 36.5 million people received sexuality education through programmes supported by Norway.
