In April 2024, SheDecides attended the ICPD30 Global Youth Dialogue in Benin.
The two day conference, hosted by UNFPA, provided a moment to spotlight progress made on safe abortion in West Africa and amplify the voices and demands of young people in the region.
SheDecides Concurrent Session: Together for Bodily Autonomy
Organised in partnership with SheDecides Champions Rutgers, IPAS and ODAS. Youth leaders and advocates shared personal reflections on the challenges young people face in accessing safe abortion services in a fire-side chat.
After an open mic session with the audience, participants created a collective abortion rights canvas.
#YouthDecides High-level Reception
Hosted by SheDecides in partnership with the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Benin, H.E. Ambassador Joris Jurriëns - a long-standing supporter of SheDecides and advocate for SRHR, the #YouthDecides event provided an important moment to celebrate young people and talk about SRHR.
Taking place on the evening before the Global Youth Dialogue in Benin, the event was perfectly timed to include representatives from Governments, UN entities, NGOs, youth groups and youth activists.
Zine Making Workshop
SheDecides hosted two creative workshops where conference delegates expressed what Youth SRHR means to them through the creation of zines - pronounced "zeen"- a self published booklet originating through letter-writing.
The zines were compiled to create one united zine on Youth SRHR which was taken to the United Nations for CPD
