Valeria has a BSc in Social Development and Environmental Engineering and was a founder of ‘F(r)eed Women’ which spreads information and creates action programs focused on women's empowerment in vulnerable situations. She is a former ‘unleasher’ from UNLEASH, a global sustainability initiative which brings together young leaders, experts, and entrepreneurs annually to accelerate breakthrough solutions for the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Valeria is also a Former Ecuadorian Delegate at the 2017 Youth Age Summit, an international Summit about food security and social development. She has expertise in social development projects related to women empowerment, education, and AIDS/HIV in Ecuador, Honduras, India, and Malaysia.
Area of interest
Valeria is particularly interested in reproductive health and Gender equality, as well as teenage and child pregnancies and Comprehensive Sexual Education.
Tell us briefly why you are passionate about being involved with SheDecides?
"In Ecuador, one woman dies every 72 hours due to an illegal abortion, while 74.8 of young girls and women have experienced sexual assault. Meanwhile, more than 3600 girls under 15 years are mothers because of rape, and early motherhood is the first cause of dropping education among women.
We face different problems under the same solution: we need a country where SheDecides. The scenario is slowly changing; joining efforts from other 24 Leaders and champions, we collaborate and holistically evaluate the Global situation we are facing and ways to make a better, safer, and stronger World."
