Adding It Up: Investing in Sexual and Reproductive Health
Adding It Up is an ongoing Guttmacher Institute project that estimates the need for, impact of and costs associated with providing essential sexual and reproductive health services. Its component studies illustrate the investment needed to ensure these services are available to all women of reproductive age (15–49) and their newborns—as well as to adolescents, specifically—in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The latest Adding It Up data on sexual and reproductive health across 132 LMICs is set to be released in 2025.

The Family Planning Investment Impact Calculator
Released in 2019 by the Guttmacher Institute, the Family Planning Investment Impact Calculator is an interactive tool that estimates the impacts of investments in family planning across low- and middle-income countries, as well as at subregional and regional levels. It provides data and visuals on the number of women and couples who would receive modern contraceptive care, the unintended pregnancies, unplanned births, and unsafe abortions that would be prevented through increased contraceptive use, the number of women’s and girls’ lives that would be saved, and the cost savings that would be achieved. The calculator models the impact of actual, planned, or hypothetical investments, assuming funding covers the full costs of contraceptive care, including service delivery and associated systems. Based on data from the Adding It Up 2024 project, it calculates service costs in 2024 US dollars.
